Overview
Most IT companies send code. vi-tech sends people — including our own CEO, who deployed offshore on a live salvage operation alongside MERC’s team. As MERC’s end-to-end technology partner, we designed and developed the websites for MERC and its partner companies, manage their entire IT infrastructure, and provide skilled resources on-site wherever the work is: shore office or open water. When a salvage operation demanded a purpose-built tool for environmental shoreline cleanup, we designed, built, and deployed a reporting app while the operation was underway. That is what a technology partner looks like in this industry.
The Challenge
Marine emergency response runs on information that’s accurate, immediate, and shared — across partner companies, shore teams, and crews offshore. MERC needed a single partner who could hold all of it together: a consistent digital presence across multiple partner entities, an IT infrastructure dependable enough for time-critical operations, and hands-on technical capability at the site of an operation, not just at the end of a support ticket. During one salvage operation, a new requirement emerged mid-response: environmental cleanup teams at the shoreline needed a structured way to report affected areas and generate cleanup reports — and there was no off-the-shelf tool, and no time to procure one.
The Solution
vi-tech operates as MERC’s embedded technology arm – building, managing, and deploying wherever the operation demands.
- Multi-Company Web Presence – Designed and developed the websites for MERC and its partner companies, giving the group a coherent, credible digital identity.
- Managed IT Infrastructure – Full ownership of MERC’s IT estate, keeping systems secure and available for an organisation that can’t afford downtime mid-response.
- On-Site Deployment, Onshore & Offshore – Our people work where MERC works. vi-tech resources – including our CEO – have deployed offshore on live salvage operations, providing technical capability at the point of action.
- Rapid-Build Salvage App – A custom application designed and delivered during an active operation, enabling teams to map affected shoreline areas and generate structured environmental cleanup reports in the field.
Our process mirrors the operations we serve: assess fast, build what the situation demands, and stand behind it in person. We scoped the cleanup app against the realities of shoreline fieldwork – intermittent connectivity, non-technical users, urgent reporting deadlines – and iterated in real time as the operation evolved. For MERC, vi-tech isn’t a vendor at the other end of an email. We’re on the manifest.
